Fraser Island is strictly 4wd territory. You can BYO vehicle or hire one, eg. from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach. A Vehicle access permit is required - obtain online from QPWS, go to

Once on K'gari, Happy Valley is about a one-hour drive along the eastern beach from Hook Point, or about 1hr20min from Kingfisher Bay or Wanggoolba Creek.
